BrownHEN is the Brown Hazeltine Entrepreneurial Network. It is named in honor of one of Brown University’s most beloved and distinguished professors, Barrett Hazeltine. Known to many of us alumni as Dean Hazeltine (during his tenure as a dean and professor), he is a living legend for spearheading entrepreneurship at Brown since the 1960s.

He is known not only for his intellect and creativity, but also for his kindness, warmth, generosity, and photographic memory of names of former students and details of their backgrounds. It is not uncommon for one of the alumni to return to campus for reunion after a 10-year absence and run into the Dean and hear him ask, “Katani, how’s your family and do you still sing?” or “Hi John, nice to see you! Are you still into computers?”

Dean Hazeltine has helped generations of Brown alumni to succeed not only inside but also outside the classrooms. Most important, he has inspired so many of us to become better human beings and to give back to our community, as he and his lovely wife Mary have to Brown and their extended community.

MISSION
BrownHEN’s mission is to provide a platform for Hazeltine alumni entrepreneurs to share their knowledge and resources with one another via our Spotlight Interviews and other features AND to establish a community of trusted alumni who are interested in supporting one another in their entrepreneurial endeavors. At a later time, and in a larger context, BrownHEN hopes to provide a resource for all Brown alumni and all entrepreneurs to help them connect with like-minded individuals.

VALUES
- personal connections & continuity
- professional & personal integrity
